Three Countries and Eleven States

Guests from Korea, Bangladesh, Canada, Hawaii, California, Alabama, Georgia, Illinois, and six other States stayed at Highland House Farm Stay or joined us for a Farm Tour, all in the month of October. It was our busiest month ever helping those in search of communing with and cuddling Highland cows and calves satisfy their fuzzy fix.

As much joy as we are able to share, the reciprocal pleasure we garner has enriched our lives beyond measure. Meeting the most amazing people from all walks of life and so many diverse and interesting professions, the tie that binds is their fascination with this historical, heritage breed.

Without exception they have never touched a Highland, and most have never seen one except in books or on the internet. When I ask visitors what brings them to our Shat Acres Highland Farm it is invariably how cute and fuzzy they look in pictures. We feel obligated to adhere to Highland Breed Standards and preserve the identity these long haired, long horned cattle have held exclusively for 1600 years, keeping Highlands looking like Highlands.

Visitors to Shat Acres, the oldest registered fold of Highland cattle in the US, will always find our cows, calves, bulls, and steers in their natural coats. Guests can comb and brush their fluffy coats, run their fingers through their long hair, bury their faces in that warm double layer of hair that insulates their bodies and ensures the tastiest, marbled, grass-fed and finished beef.

Ray and I are blessed to offer the gifts we have with such a grateful audience. With our exquisite views and vistas, beautiful, docile cows and calves who love being with people, Ray’s knowledge of farming and Highlands from doing this all of his life, and my enthusiasm about sharing knowledge about the uniqueness of Highland beef, regenerative agriculture, caring for the land, soil, and water we steward, we feel it would be selfish not to share what we have.

And luckily what we have seems to match perfectly with what visitors want.
