What a Day!

Over sixty guests joined us for our 2026 OPEN FARM DAY, Plainfield, Vermont. The weather could not have been more perfect for the event.

Shat Acres Demi Moo and Shat Acres Marilyn were so patient while being combed, cuddled, and loved on by young and not so young for over three hours! Their makeshift corral was shaded by apple trees that afforded them plenty of snacks fed to them by visitors. Shat Acres Zora was a star, entertaining guests by fence of her pasture, consuming apple after apple as quickly as they could be cut in half! Several visitors brought a blanket and picnic lunch, sitting on the hillside enjoying the view of the Green Mountains and Adirondacks.

Most faithful attendees?

Whitney’s family have attended every year since we began offering Open Farm Day, each year with additional family members!

Ray and I are beyond grateful for the many hands who helped make this special day such a success, from setting up the tent, chairs and signage, assisting with handing out combs, brushes and cow combing, tending the swag table and handing out cake, and assisting with selling our Greenfield Highland Beef. We could not have done it without each and every one of them.

Special thanks to #nofavt for helping plan and promote Open Farm Week throughout the State. We are glad to be able to offer the joy, peace, and smiles Highland cattle bring with the public from near and far, and to help share knowledge of our sustainable, regenerative agricultural practices and humane beef production. Vermont is blessed to have #nofavt helping farmers succeed and be sustainable despite the economic and climate challenges facing farmers every day.

If you are a farmer, check to see if your State offers something similar to Vermont's OPEN FARM WEEK. If not, see if you can inspire your Agency of Agriculture or other organization to do so. It is a great way for the public to learn more about the diversity of farms producing a variety of healthy, locally raised, quality food for you and your family. And a great way for visitors to get out, enjoy the outdoors in summer, and explore new places.

Time to start planning for OPEN FARM DAY 2027! Hope to see you then!
